As expected, Elton John performed a mini-set at the wedding reception of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle. Elton along with husband David Furnish had attended the earlier ceremony in the historic Windsor Castle and played a four-song mini set for the newlyweds at the private reception.The Daily Mail reported after addressing the 600 guests, Prince Harry declared: "'Does anyone here know how to play the piano?' (Elton) then sat by the piano and performed four songs, 'Your Song,' 'Circle Of Life,' 'I'm Still Standing' and 'Tiny Dancer'; the latter song features the lyric 'L.A. lady,' a nod to Markle's acting career."
Elton John was a close fried of Prince Harry's mother, the late-Princess Diana, and on September 6th, 1997 performed an updated version of "Candle In The Wind" featuring new lyrics by Bernie Taupin at Diana's funeral.
ABC will air The Last Days Of Michael Jackson, a new documentary of the doomed "Prince of Pop" on Thursday (May 24th) night. Spin.com reported the two-hour special, which spotlights Jackson's rise to fame and decent into the bizarre and ultimately drug addiction, features previously unseen interviews Jackson gave to both Barbra Walters and Diana Sawyer -- and also includes a new interview with younger sister Janet Jackson reflecting on her brother's life and death.
Michael Jackson died on June 25th, 2009 at age 50 of acute propofol and benzodiazepine intoxication, after suffering from cardiac arrest. At the time of his death, he was preparing for a series of comeback dates at London's 02 Arena.
Journey and Def Leppard kick off their massive joint 60-city tour tonight (May 21st) at Hartford, Connecticut's XL Center. The trek runs throughout the spring and summer and well into the fall when Journey and Leppard close things out over two nights, on October 6th and 7th in Inglewood, California at The Forum.
In the press release announcing the tour, Journey co-founder Neal Schon was quoted saying "These co-headlining Journey/Def Leppard dates will be epic classic rock shows. So many hits. It will be great to see you all, friends!" Bandmate Jonathan Cain added: "We are all anxious to share our sound with the world again and, along with Def Leppard, we are part of a world-class package to the rock stage that spans decades and represents a multi-platinum legacy." They will be in Hershey this Friday night!
